Popular Nairobi Public Service Vehicle Company Super Metro was feted at the Annual Afrika Mashariki Transport awards Gala on Friday, October 13 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre KICC in Nairobi.
Super Metro was nominated under the category of Matatu awards which had seven entries.

The entries were Matatu Sacco of the year, long distance shuttle of the year, matatu of the year.
Other entries were male and female driver of the year as well as male and female conductor of the year.

In addition, the PSV company won the best matatu transport of the year, male matatu transport driver of the year and male conductor of the year awards.
Super Metro Sacco
Super Metro Sacco is a popular matatu Sacco based in Nairobi and has been making waves in the city’s public transportation sector with remarkable growth.

Likewise, the matatu Sacco has won the trust of many Nairobians who would rather queue for hours to board Super Metro buses.
What’s more, as Kenya makes strides towards embracing the use of sustainable mobility to fight climate change, Super Metro joined the journey.
In February 2023, Super Metro unveiled its first electric bus in efforts to support clean vehicles-clean environment in partnership with BasiGo.
New Routes
Super Metro unveiled new buses that will ferry passengers through the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
“Soon we will be launching new electric buses and more of the seventh generation NQR series which will be operating from the CBD straight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA),” read a statement by the company.

At the time, the buses were plying the Central Business District (CBD)- Kitengela ,CBD-Kikuyu and (CBD)-Ngong routes.
Afrika Mashariki Gala 2023
The event brought together key players in the transport industry, including government agencies, investors, manufacturers.
Also, other players were suppliers, and service providers, offering an opportunity for the stakeholders to network, share knowledge and best practices, and explore business partnerships.
The prestigious awards attracted several nominees in the transport sector. The National Transport and Safety Authority was named the transport agency customer service of the year.
Other notable companies were G4S, Standard Guage Railway – SGR and Yego company which scooped taxi provider of the year.
Moreover, the Afrika Mashariki Transport awards is an initiative in Kenya and East Africa, which recognizes and celebrates outstanding achievements in the transport industry within the region.
Notably this year’s awards were the second edition after a successful event in 2022.
