UDA Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Johnson Sakaja has promised to consolidate multiple business licenses into one if wins the city hall race in August.
According to Sakaja the numerous licenses traders are required to acquire are an impediment to the effectiveness of doing business in the city
He noted that the multiple licenses are also an avenue for corruption
He cited licences like trade, Nema, PRISK, fire, health, MCSK, advertising signage license and food hygiene as among those that should be consolidated to enhance the ease of doing business in the city.
Sakaja says if wins the race , he will merge all the statutory requirements by the county and national governments and issue only one license to business establishments.
“We are going to consolidate them so that you pay only once and you can pay even in installments so that we facilitate you to do business,” he said.
“Once you pay the county government, there’s only one person who does an inspection,” Sakaja added.
He noted that the requirement of the many licenses was an impediment to the collection of revenue by the county government
The Nairobi Senator said many traders chose to use the back door in acquiring the licenses something he says denies the county its rightful revenue share.
