Tragic Story of Joyce Ongombe: Woman Battling for Life After Losing Six Family Members

A Kenyan woman, Joyce Ongombe, is fighting for her life after enduring a series of heartbreaking tragedies that have claimed the lives of six close family members.

Joyce remains in critical condition at Kenyatta National Hospital following a devastating gas explosion that also claimed the life of her last surviving child, Georgina.

The latest tragedy struck two weeks ago when Joyce and her daughter travelled to Mombasa for a Christmas holiday getaway.

While cooking breakfast at their rented apartment, a boiler exploded, causing severe burns to both mother and daughter.

However, Joyce sustained burns covering 40% of her body, while Georgina suffered burns over 60%.

Despite swift evacuation to Nairobi for advanced medical care and widespread support from friends and well-wishers donating blood and financial assistance, Georgina succumbed to her injuries.

A Journey Marked by Tragic Heartbreak

Joyce’s current medical battle comes after a history of devastating personal losses.

Several years ago, her husband and two sons perished in a tragic road accident near Narok. The family was travelling back to Nairobi when flash floods near Suswa swept away their vehicle.

The violent waters carried the car away, and when the bodies were finally recovered days later, the damage caused by the floodwaters was severe. The loss of her husband and sons plunged Joyce into grief.

However, just six months later her ailing mother passed away. Before Joyce could fully process her mother’s death, her father collapsed and died instantly upon hearing the news.

These heart-wrenching events left her a widow, orphaned, and with only one surviving child, Georgina.

Now, the unimaginable has happened again with Georgina’s passing. The teenager, a bright and promising Alliance Girls High School student, had a passion for life and a deep love for her faith.
