A Russian missile strike killed at least 15 people, including a 62-year-old American citizen, during an overnight attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, on June 17, 2025. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has remained silent on the incident.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed in writing through the Telegram messaging app said the 62-year-old American was pronounced dead by doctors in the city.
“During the attack on Kyiv, a 62-year-old U.S. citizen died in a dwelling in the Solomianskyi district opposite where medics were assisting. Medics noted his clinical, biological death,” Klitschko wrote.
The Russian attack hit Kyiv with 175 drones, 14 cruise missiles and two ballistic missiles.
Additionally, at least 99 others were wounded in strikes that hollowed out a residential building and destroyed dozens of apartments.
Zelensky Describes the War Attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin continues the war simply because he wants the war to persist and described it as pure terrorism.
“I receive regular reports from Minister of Internal Affairs Klymenko and our military commanders on the aftermath of Russia’s massive strike. More than 440 drones and 32 missiles were used. Kyiv has faced one of the most horrific attacks. Also, overnight, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv and Kyiv regions were attacked,” said Zelensky.

Zelensky revealed that efforts are underway to rescue people from under the rubble of residential buildings, while it remains unclear how many have been trapped.
“The Russians destroyed an entire section of the apartment block. In total, buildings in eight districts of Kyiv have been damaged. Response efforts are still ongoing after the strike on Odesa. Emergency workers are operating at all the sites of impact. All the affected are receiving the necessary assistance. 75 people have been reported injured,” he added.

Trump Discusses About Russia at the G7 Summit
At the G7 summit, US President Donald Trump indicated that he would not impose additional sanctions on Russia, stating that it should be up to European nations to take the lead.
The president stated that his priority is to continue pushing for progress in the stalled peace negotiations before considering any additional punitive measures against Russia.
