Donald Trump’s administration has proposed new travel rules requiring tourists from 42 countries to submit five years of social media history before entering the United States.
In a notice issued by the Federal Register on Wednesday, December 10, the proposal is part of a broader plan to overhaul the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), the online system used by citizens of visa-waiver countries to travel to the US for tourism or business.
“The Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be submitting the following information collection request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and approval in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (PRA),” read the notice.
Under the new requirements, applicants would also need to provide additional personal details, including information about their relatives and all email addresses used over the past 10 years.
