The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised 36,275 positions for promotion as part of efforts to avoid teachers stagnating in the same job group.
In a statement, TSC noted that teachers will get promotions across nine grades spreading from primary schools to teachers’ training colleges.
“Promotions will be spread across primary, secondary schools and teachers training colleges,” TSC stated.
Moreover, in the circular, TSC boss Nancy Macharia calls on all interested candidates to apply for the positions advertised.
She further adds that the vacancies are for Chief Principal, Senior Principal, Principals, Deputy Principal, Senior Lecturer, Senior Master, Secondary Teacher I, Head teacher, Deputy head teacher and senior teacher.

“Pursuant to its mandate, the Commission invites applications from suitably qualified teachers for the posts shown below in line with the Career Progression Guidelines for Teachers,” said Macharia.
Promotion Slots
The Teachers Service Commission has set aside 12,716 promotions for senior masters, whereas 10,819 teachers will be promoted to the position of senior teachers in regular primary schools.
“For headteachers, the commission has set aside 1,049 promotions under grade C5.”
Likewise, TSC has set a side 700 positions for senior teachers in special needs schools, and 216 promotion positions for senior lecturer in teachers training colleges.
108 positions has been allocated for senior principal while 34 more positions set aside for chief principals.
Nonetheless, interested candidates who meet the qualifications required are advised to submit their applications through the TSC portal by September 8.
“Those interested are expected to apply for the positions by the 8th of September 2023 through the TSC portal,” TSC stated.
The announcement for promotion of teachers’ by TSC comes a day after President William Ruto announced that the government had set aside Ksh1 billion for promotion of teachers across the country.

“We have provided for the promotion of 5,000 teachers directly and 36,000 teachers indirectly. We have provided Ksh1 billion that will go in that direction,” said Ruto.
Similarly, the promotions come in the wake of salary disagreements between the Teachers Service Commission and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
KUPPET rejected a new salary proposal by TSC, saying it is below both the presidential directive and Salary Remuneration Commission advisory.
