United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Governor Mutahi Kahiga has cleared the air on asking President Wiliam Ruto to fire Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir following the nationwide power outages.
The Nyeri governor while denying the claims noted that he made his previous remarks while he was in the company of Davis Chirchir at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) during the blackout.
According to Kahiga, he saw how worried the CS was while making several calls to have power restored.
Via his X account on Wednesday, 13 December the governor stated that the claims were castigated, and his Jamhuri Day speech was misinterpreted.
“I wish to clarify that I never demanded for the sacking of CS Davis Chichir for the recent power failure in my Jamhuri Day speech,” noted Kahiga.
“All I said is that I was with Waziri at JKIA when the blackout happened. I said he frantically made calls to have power restored,” Kahiga further stated.

Likewise, the Nyeri County Chief stressed that the national power failure is an embarrassment adding that the power failure at JKIA calls for accountability.
Additionally, Kahiga said he asked President William Ruto to sack the CS responsible for Airports who is the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Kipchumba Murkomen, advocating that he should be held accountable.
“What I said and still maintain is that power failure in JKIA is a national embarrassment. I asked the President to sack the CS concerned with Airports,” said Kahiga.
Meanwhile the UDA governor insisted that President Wiliam Ruto should lay off all the Cabinet Secretaries letting him down.
“I also said that all Cabinet secretaries letting down the President must be shown the door,” stated Kahiga.
Similarly, he highlighted that it cannot be business as usual when the president works till midnight while his CSs let him down.
“I reminded all and sundry that it cannot be business as usual if the President is in office at 6 am and doesn’t leave till midnight while the CSs he has given jobs continue letting him down! I still maintain this same stand!” he said.
