A Kenya Kwanza legislator has revealed that the National Assembly will impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua before December 2024.
Speaking at the funeral of the late actress Winfred Bwire in Matungu on September 21, Didmus Barasa said he would ensure that Deputy President Gachagua “goes home” and practices tribalism in his village.
“Before this year ends, I will ensure that the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya celebrates Christmas as an ordinary citizen, so he can continue his tribal politics in his village,” the Kimilili lawmaker vowed.
At the same time, Didmus accused Gachagua of undermining the leadership of several Western leaders including the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for not bringing enough votes to President William Ruto’s camp during the 2022 general elections.
Didmus Barasa accuses Gachagua of undermining Western Kenyan leaders
“Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently went to his Karatina home and said Moses Wetangula does not deserve to hold the position of the Speaker because he and the people of Bungoma did not contribute enough votes for the William Ruto’s presidency. He equally made the same remarks against the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi,” Barasa alleged.
The Kimilili legislator has been part of the Kenya Kwanza leaders perceived to be allies of the president, who have been labeling Gachagua as a tribal bigot and championing divisive politics.

However, in a recent interview with Citizen TV, Gachagua rubbished off those claims and said he does not only champion the interests of the people of Mount Kenya Region but also the people from other regions within the country.
Didmus’s remarks come at a time when DP Gachagua has accused several leaders within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party of plotting a move to impeach him from the presidency.

During the interview, Gachagua accused senior leaders within the Kenya Kwanza party of holding many meetings to oust him, with those leaders claiming to have the President’s blessings.
Gachagua also said he has been denied access to the President’s Event diary which he initially used to access and therefore cannot attend some of the President’s events.
Additionally, he also said he was kicked out of the Statehouse WhatsApp group.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua further stated that his treatment by the current administration is worse than what President Ruto faced as Deputy President.
He noted that Ruto was given at least time to serve his mandate within the first term of Uhuruto’s presidency without intimidation, unlike him, who has only served for a year.
Gachagua insisted he should be allowed to serve Kenyans for the rest of their term.
