The leakage experienced at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has gone international with viral video showing profuse leaking in the facility making rounds in Uganda.
On Wednesday, November 15, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCCA) posted the video – clarifying that it was not captured at the Entebbe International Airport- the country’s central airport.
Instead, the Civil Authority made it clear that it was an “unfortunate situation” in a neighboring country and that Ugandan citizens should ignore it.
“Please ignore the trending video of an unfortunate situation at an airport in a neighboring country, which some WhatsApp users have wrongly attributed to Entebbe International Airport,” the statement read in part.
“Note that this is not Entebbe International Airport.”
While it may have sounded like a clarification, Kenyans on social media took the statement as an attempt to mock Kenya for the recent mess at the country’s most crucial entry point.
Kenyans who interacted made fun of the statement, sharing comments on what they thought was a shade from the neighboring country’s government.
Mixed reaction from Kenyans
Popular blogger and columnist Gabriel Ogunda was among Kenyans who commented on the post stating, “If you wanted to talk to Kenyans, talk to us direct – don’t cut through the corners”.
Another user named David Ayuya joked that the video was generated using Artificial Intelligence for education purposes.
