Israeli Air Force fighter jets attacked an underground Hezbollah military facility today in southern Lebanon’s Beaufort Ridge, intensifying scrutiny over the fragile enforcement of ceasefire understandings.
In a statement released on August 31, the Israel Defense Forces said the strike targeted “military infrastructure, including underground infrastructure at a site of the Hezbollah terror organization, where military activity was identified” in the Beaufort Ridge area.
According to the IDF, “the existence of the site and the activity there constitute a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” and that “the IDF will continue to operate in order to remove any threat to the State of Israel.”
This operation marks the latest in a series of IAF strikes on similar facilities.
Efforts to Rehabilitate Hezbollah Base
Previous reports cite attacks in June and May on underground sites used to manage Hezbollah’s fire and defense systems in the same area.
The military insists these repeated efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure represent a clear breach of post-war agreements and U.N. Resolution 1701.

Reports from earlier airstrikes on June 27 indicate the strike on Beaufort Ridge may have been part of a broader campaign.
In that earlier incident, Lebanese authorities confirmed at least one civilian killed and multiple injuries when residential areas in nearby Nabatieh were struck.
Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center reported one civilian fatality and several injuries, while Lebanon’s Prime Minister described the attacks as blatant violations of sovereignty.
Since the November 2024 ceasefire, Israel has continued strikes citing Hezbollah’s attempts to rebuild military infrastructure in southern Lebanon, despite ceasefire terms prohibiting armed activity south of the Litani River.
Israeli PM Calls Australia Prime Minister ‘Weak’
Barely a month later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, after his pronouncement that Australia will recognise a Palestinian state.
In a statement on August 19, Netanyahu said Albanese will be remembered as a ‘weak’ politician who betrayed Israel and abandoned Australia’s Jews.
“History will remember Albanese for what he is: A weak politician who betrayed Israel and abandoned Australia’s Jews.”
Speaking on August 11, Albanese said Australia will recognise a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
“I can confirm that at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September, Australia will recognise the State of Palestine,” Albanese said.
He said Australia will recognise the right of the Palestinian people to a state of their own, predicated on the commitments Australia has received from the Palestinian Authority.
“We will work with the international community to make this right a reality,” he added.
Albanese said the decision was made after a Cabinet meeting and is part of a coordinated global effort to build momentum for a two-state solution.
