Two students from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) have been confirmed dead after drowning while swimming in the Titanic dam, Kiambu county.
The two students have been identified as Abel Ontuga Mikaye and Dansteph Matoke.

Police retrieved the bodies after receiving reports from community members of Muthuga, Juja sub-county at around 4pm on Sunday, February
Detectives are investigating the incident which happened during a fun day out at a popular ‘park and chill’ spot off Thika Road in the Mugutha area of Juja sub-county.

According to eyewitnesses, despite futile rescue efforts, the students drowned while swimming.
The residents informed Juja police officers who swiftly responded and visited the scene.

Central Sub-County Police Commander Doris Kimeli confirmed the incident said the victims were two male students aged 21 and 22 who were out for a fun day of swimming at the dam.
Kimeli said the officers are conducting investigations to establish hos the students died,
Kiambu County divers retrieved from the dam the bodies were and moved to General Kago Hospital Mortuary in Thika, where they await post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.

Warning After JKUAT Students Tragedy
The Authorities have cautioned residents visiting the scene for fun activities.
Police noted that it was not the first time such a tragedy happened at the dam.
According to the police, outdoor enthusiasts love the area for its scenic beauty, but it is considered particularly dangerous.
Motorists frequently park on a slope overlooking the water to enjoy the view, increasing the risk of accidents.

Couple Killed in Titanic Dam
The Titanic dam hit the headlines in January 2023 when a vehicle plunged into the water, killing both the driver and his passenger.
Witnesses said the two were at the dam for over an hour before the incident occurred.
It is claimed that a dispute erupted between the two, prompting the man to start the engine of his Nissan X-Trail and shift the car into reverse.
The vehicle sank into the water, and they both drowned.
