It has been revealed Kenyans do not want to return home after spending some time abroad. The Cabinet Secretary for Labor and Social Protection Dr. Alfred Mutua has explained why many Kenyans living in Saudi Arabia are hesitant to return home.
In a video shared on his social media account, Mutua, who is currently in Riyadh for the Kazi Majuu! initiative at the Global Labour Market Conference highlighted the numerous job opportunities available for Kenyans in the country.
Mutua mentioned that many Kenyans in Saudi Arabia are doing well and are eager to extend their work contracts.
“I met Kenyans here and asked them, ‘Do you want to go back home?’ They responded, ‘No, we actually want you to ask them to give us more time here, to renew our contracts so we can continue working,’” he said.
Mutua Reveals why Kenyans are Reluctant to Return home
He further noted that the Saudi Arabian government has many job openings that Kenyans can take advantage of, emphasizing the demand for workers in the country.
“There are many people in Kenya without jobs, but there are also jobs without people here in Saudi Arabia,” Mutua remarked.
Additionally, Mutua mentioned that the Saudi government has introduced a digital response system where Kenyans facing challenges can report issues online or via mobile phone and receive immediate assistance.

He also revealed that a designated Saudi government official has been assigned to address work-related concerns and other issues affecting Kenyans residing in the country.
On October 31, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs responded to a distress call regarding a Kenyan woman reportedly locked in a toilet in Saudi Arabia.
This response followed a post on X by a user with the username @GenZi254, who shared a picture of a woman identified as Vivian Wangamati, claiming that she was confined by her employer. The post read, “Her boss locked her in the toilet in Saudi Arabia.
She’s asking the Diaspora Ministry and well-wishers to help her return home.”
About Kazi Majuu Initiative
In response, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs stated on social media that the government is addressing the matter and exploring ways to resolve it.
For a while, Mutua has been spearheading the Kazi Majuu initiative.
