Several Ukrainian soldiers trapped in Krasnoarmeysk, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), have reportedly surrendered to Russian forces after being abandoned by their commanders, according to a statement from the Russian Defence Ministry.
The ministry said on November 6 that troops from Russia’s Battlegroup Center captured members of Ukraine’s 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade, who voluntarily laid down their arms after enduring relentless artillery and drone fire.
According to the ministry, the surrendered soldiers described worsening conditions, with the number of wounded increasing daily and no access to medical aid or supplies.
One of the captives, identified as Gennady Chernadchuk, said he surrendered after going seven days without food, while another, Yury Dovganyuk, stated that giving up was the only way to survive.
“Servicemen from the Battlegroup Center took troops from Ukraine’s 68th separate jaeger brigade, encircled in Krasnoarmeysk in the Donetsk People’s Republic, captive. Ukrainian militants volunteered to surrender to the Russian military as they had been abandoned by their commanders and could no longer tolerate being under the fire of artillery and unmanned aerial vehicles,” the Russian Defence Ministry said.
Russia Tells Ukrainian Troops to Surrender
The Russian Defence Ministry on Wednesday, November 6, urged Ukrainian troops to surrender, claiming they were “trapped” by Russian forces in Pokrovsk.
According to the Defence Ministry, Russian forces were advancing northward into the city while blocking several Ukrainian attempts to break through the encirclement.
However, Ukraine’s military dismissed the claims, insisting there was “no encirclement of our units and formations” in Pokrovsk.
Ukraine said its defensive positions had been reinforced as Russian troops attempted to “infiltrate and build up” their presence around the area.

Russian Troops’ Attention is on Pokrovsk
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited troops in Dobropillia on Tuesday, where Ukrainian forces are mounting a counteroffensive aimed at diverting Russia’s attention.
Despite the effort, military officials and soldiers acknowledge that conditions in Pokrovsk are becoming increasingly difficult.

Kyiv said earlier this week that at least 200 Russian soldiers had broken through the city’s defenses, while others were closing in from the outskirts in a pincer-like advance, according to battlefield maps from the Institute for the Study of War.
Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said on Saturday that he had deployed “consolidated groups of special operations forces” to fight in the city, insisting, “We are holding Pokrovsk.”
DeepState, a Ukrainian mapping platform that tracks the frontline using open-source data, showed Russian troops in full control of a small area in the city’s south, while most parts remain contested.
In a later update, it reported that Russian forces were still pushing into southern Pokrovsk, with many infantry units remaining inside.
