CS Machogu Says No Fees For Junior Secondary School Learners

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has stated that learners in junior secondary schools will be exempted from paying school fees.

Speaking on Monday, January 16, CS Machogu revealed that President William Ruto had directed Treasury to set aside the capitation per student at Ksh15,000 per learner, to facilitate free learning in all Junior Secondary Schools.

The CS further stated that the government would spend Ksh 9.6 billion to sustain the program.

“No school should charge any fees for grade 7 learners unless such schools are boarding wings,” he declared.

Machogu further revealed that the amount the government had been giving for secondary schools as capitation was Ksh 22,244 and for primary schools was Ksh 1,420.

“Because Junior Secondary is from grades 7, 8 and 9, we have worked on a figure that the amount being given to a student be Ksh 15000 almost similar to what is paid for Senior Secondary school learners,” he disclosed.
