Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, February 15 raided the Karen home of former Cabinet Secretary Fred Mataingi and obtained the CCTV footage after obtaining a search warrant.
The detectives who were accompanied by uniformed police officers forced their way into Matingi’s residence after breaking the lock of the main.
They then proceeded to the house in search of the CCTV footage in an ongoing investigation to confirm the veracity of Matiangi’s claim that police had raided the home last week.

The search at Matiangi’s office came even as DCI chief Mohammed Amin said it had recorded statements from police officers attached to the former Cabinet Secretary.
“Upon completing our investigation, we will take action if any officers from any security agency were involved in any unauthorized activities, or if any false information was knowingly disseminated by anyone to the public,” he said in a statement.
The DCI had earlier applied for an order to compel security firms at Matiangi’s home to hand them the footage, but the court did not not grant it, prompting them to apply for a search warrant which was issued.
While commenting on the raid, Matiangi’s legal team led by Danstan Omari said that the officers made a forceful entry into the premises of the former security boss that served under the regime of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“We were alerted that they (police) have arrested the watchman and broke the main gate. They gained access and ransacked the CS house,” he said, “this is unacceptable.”
Amin said the agency intends to review the footage to establish Matiangi’s assertions on an alleged raid at his home on February 8 which was dismissed as untrue.
