The High Court has allowed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to freeze Migori governor Okoth Obado’s assets.
This action is in line with the pending hearing and determination of a case where governor Obado is accused of embezzling Ksh.74 million from the county reserves.
Moreover, Justice Esther Maina on Thursday, July 21 ordered EACC to seize two high-end vehicles from the Migori governor as well as a residential property in Loresho Ridge estate, Nairobi.
Likewise, the Migori governor has been forbidden from selling the vehicles and collecting rent from the mentioned residential apartment.

In addition, Obado is required to forward all proceeds from the house to a joint account in the name of EACC and the Governor.
“Pending the hearing and determination of this matter an order is granted that the monthly rental income of Ksh. 143,000 derived from renting out of the Loresho Ridge House be remitted in the joint earning accounts in name of EACC and Mr Obado,” Justice Maina ruled.
Similarly, Obado’s children including, Jerry Zachary Okoth, Scarlet Susan Okoth, Dan Okoth and Evelyne Adhiambo, as well as his close associate Peter Odoyo Kwaga, have been ordered to surrender their vehicles and logbooks to EACC within seven days.
Besides, they have also been prohibited from selling or transferring the frozen assets.
Furthermore, EACC had moved to court accusing governor Obado of using suspicious contracts to siphon Ksh. 73,474,376 from Migori County.
According to EACC, associates of the governor registered several companies for the sole purpose of acquiring tenders from Migori County.
The said companies include: Misoft limited, Dankey Press Limited, Atinus Services Limited, Tarchdog Printers Limited, Mactebac Contractors, Selectrack Consultants, Joyush Business Limited, Swyfcon Engineering, Dolphus Software Limited, Kajulu Business Limited, Pesulus Suppliers Limited and Victorious Investment Limited.
Nonetheless, after being awarded the tenders, the companies purportedly wired the funds to accounts registered in Obado’s name.
Additionally, the anti-graft commission claimed that the Migori governor used Ksh.38.9 million to pay school fees for his children and buy luxury cars.
Moreover, EACC says the governor used the Ksh.34 million balance, to acquire the residential unit in Loresho.
Nevertheless, the case is set to be mentioned on September 18, 2022.
