Police officers in Migori County are presently pursuing a 20-year-old man said to have been living with two minors aged 17 and 12 in his house in Apida estate, Suna East, as his supposed wives.
One of the minors, the 17-year-old girl, spent the night in custody at the Migori Police Station while the other – a Class Six girl – as well as the man are still on the run.
The area village elder Consolate Odongo and human rights activist Diana Rose said they received a tip-off that the three were staying in a rental house together in a sort of marriage arrangement.
According to Mrs. Odongo, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect first ‘married’ the Class Six pupil before taking in the 17-year-old girl two months ago after she dropped out of school at Form One.
The village elder further stated that the mother of the male suspect was aware of the situation.
Human rights activist Diana Rose said legal action should also be taken against the parents of the girls and the male suspect.
