President William Ruto has appointed 19 Cabinet Secretaries to help him in day-to-day operations of the government.
Ruto picked 32-year-old Muuga Muriithi Eric to take over from Zachariah Njeru as the CS of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation.
Muriithi is a Civil Engineer and a water resource enthusiast with over eight years’ experience in Operations and Management of Engineering Projects, Water Hydraulic Modeling, Design of Water and Wastewater Networks and Water Treatment Plants and other water structures.
He holds a master’s degree in civil engineering (Water Resources) from the University of Nairobi [2018-2022].
Muriithi also holds a bachelor’s degree in civil and construction engineering [First Class Honours] from The University of Nairobi [2011-2016].
Murithi Experience
He served as an assistant Project Engineer at the Water and Sanitation Development Project (WSDP).
Muriithi was also assistant Project Engineer at KIMAWASCO and Design Engineer at the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water and Supply Sanitation Program.
According to his CV, he was the design engineer in the Kenya Sustainable Town Water Supply and Sanitation Program. He has also taken part in last mile connectivity works for Narok: Kabarnet and Marigat Towns and Kabartonjo and Chemolingon Urban Centres.
Muriithi also served as an assistant engineer during Feasibility Study & Preparation of Water Supply Masterplan for Murang’a County in 2019.
Between 2018 July and March 2019, he was a design engineer during Preparation of Detailed Design, ESIA/RAP and Tender Documents for Water Distribution Works for Mombasa and 3 Water Service Providers.

Other Activities Involved in
In his early years, Muriithi worked as a volunteer teacher at Kirindine Day Secondary School-Meru County between May 2010-July 2011.
At the time, Muriithi was tasked with the responsibility of teaching and tutoring students on subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Business Studies and Geography.
He also had a stint with the Kenya Red Cross Society – UoN Chapter 2015 focusing on activities including offering basic first AID services during local events and participating in voluntary Street cleaning around Nairobi.
Membership Of Professional Bodies
He is a registered Graduate Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
Ruto ICT CS Nominee Profile
Ruto also nominated Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, PhD, who is a renowned expert in Internet Governance to be his new CS for ICT.
Her expertise includes Internet infrastructure, AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, and data governance. She contributed to the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy and sectoral strategies for education, health, and agriculture.
Dr. Ndung’u also played a key role in developing and implementing the African Union Data Policy Framework.
She also coordinated a six-module online Internet Governance curriculum used by 30 national and regional schools across Africa and developed a 10-module course for the Pan African University Institute, tailoring it to the e-skills of participants.

She also holds a PhD in Information Systems University of Nairobi, Kenya (2011) and an MBA in Management Science from the University of Nairobi, Kenya (2000).

Ruto Nominates Dr. Karanja as Agriculture CS
On his part, Dr. Andrew Karanja- the nominee for the Ministry of Agriculture has over 36 years’ experience in the public sector both locally and internationally in the fields of development economics, rural development and finance, agriculture and livestock development, project formulation, management, and evaluation.
He started his career as an extension officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. He also worked as a planning officer in the same ministry.
Later, he joined the Coffee Research Foundation (CRF) as a research officer/agricultural economist where he rose to senior agricultural economist and head of the Economics Department. Dr. Karanja joined the World Bank in 2003 as an agricultural economist.
He holds a PhD in Development Economics and Policy from Wageningen University, Netherlands, a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nairobi, and a bachelor’s in agriculture from the University of Nairobi [1984-1987].
