With four blocks each boasting of 10 storeys, the Chuka Affordable Housing project is changing the landscape and the skyline of Chuka Town, offering locals a sneak preview of the future.
A key pillar of President William Ruto’s broader socioeconomic agenda, which aims to address the housing shortage and provide Kenyans with affordable and decent housing, the Chuka project is eye-catching and equally imposing.
According to Ferros Khan, the site Operations Manager, Chuka Affordable Housing comprises four blocks with 10-storeys each and 385 units in total.
“We have single bedrooms, we have double bedrooms, and we have three-bedroom houses,” he said, adding that the project also has job opportunities for locals. “We have 300 skilled and unskilled workers as well as casual laborers too; men are 60 percent and women 40 percent, respectively.”
“Everyone gets a job. Those people saying the President should work are people who don’t like to work. You know, if you get used to staying at home and not working, you will have led down our Mr. President. Because he has offered to create employment opportunities for its citizens. You should get out of comfort and look for jobs, because there are plenty of jobs on these project sites.”

He said that the project is slated to be completed in December, adding that it takes a whole-community approach, with a basketball court, ample parking space, a garbage area, a shop, stalls, and a day care where mothers can leave their children as they go to work.
“With this project, the President has done a lot for us because it has created job opportunities for the Gen Z and even mothers, the elderly, and persons with disabilities; they are going to benefit from this project,” Khan said, heaping praise on local youth who have shown dedication and commitment at the site.
“My friend, this project is going to change this area a lot because it is a big project and it is going to create jobs for many people. Already, it is solving many issues because many people get more here,” he said.
And here we don’t have discrimination; we also see disabled people, we work with them. We do not discriminate, we even see PWDs (people with disabilities), we work with them, and we understand each other well.
“I want to thank President Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for bringing a project like this here because it is going to change this area and help the people a lot,” he stated, calling upon the youth to fully exploit the ongoing infrastructure development across the country for personal growth.”
“Those in the comfort zone should wake up and start working and stop spreading propaganda because President Ruto has shown utmost dedication and those spreading propaganda should desist,” he added.
At the same time, Wycliff Mwenda, a resident of Chuka, heaped praise on President Ruto’s administration, saying that the Affordable Housing Program opened a job opportunity for him and his peers.

“I appreciate and thank the national government for fulfilling its promise to bring jobs and employment opportunities through the Affordable Housing. We as Gen Zs are getting jobs; we are no longer idle,” Mwenda said.
“The money we have here we can save, and use it to pursue the training and studies you want to study; even if your parents don’t have the financial ability for your studies, you work for yourself, and you save,” he observed.
Mwenda said he plans to apply for and acquire one of the units once it is completed.
He maintained that many youth in the area secured jobs at the Chuka Affordable Project, adding that it is hard to find youth idling around these days. “We get paid on time. I know 30 of my friends who have benefited from this project,” he said.
According to him, President Ruto’s ambitious plan to move Kenya from Third World to First World in 30 years is achievable. “We are on course to the journey to Singapore. We will get jobs and markets; many people have seen their lives improve,” he affirmed.
