Kenyan comedian DJ Shiti has confirmed that his family faked his father’s death to obtain money from him, an incident that forced him to miss a scheduled Netflix set.

Shiti revealed that he had distanced himself from his family due to black tax, citing the emotional and financial pressure caused by constant expectations.

He further stated that he had previously faced serious financial challenges that significantly drained him due to repeated family demands.

How DJ Shiti Discovered the Fake Death

Shiti explained that his father had been diagnosed with cancer, while his mother suffers from arthritis. He said he continued supporting them financially by paying medical bills, despite his siblings’ failure to contribute.

He revealed that he turned down a Netflix job and even gave the opportunity to someone else so he could visit the hospital after being informed of his father’s alleged death.

“I’m going to tell you a story. We had cut everything. It was the Netflix advert,” said Shiti

“We had cut everything.  Even Netflix had posted me on their IG.”

The comedian further disclosed that on one occasion, he sent money meant for medical treatment, but his parents allegedly redirected it to a pastor instead of using it for its intended purpose.

Shiti also stated that he bought land for his parents to build on after their ancestral land was sold. However, he later discovered that the land had been given to a pastor while his parents were seeking spiritual healing. He said he reported the matter to the police, leading to the pastor’s arrest.

“So, after I bought them, I was busy with my things and couldn’t stay there. They did not build; instead, they gave it to a pastor who built it himself. I then realized what they did and reported the pastor,” said Shiti.

He also opened up about his strained relationship with his siblings, claiming they frequently demand financial support while leaving most responsibilities to him. Shiti faulted his parents for what he described as irresponsibility and favoritism among siblings.

“If someone doesn’t have a culture of saving, or something like that, don’t expect your kids to be like that,” said Shiti

Additionally, he noted that his brother’s and sister’s children depend on him financially and that he has been responsible for paying school fees for his younger siblings, a situation he said is common in many African families.

Despite these challenges, Shiti credited fellow entertainers Bien-Aimé Baraza and Eddie Butita for supporting his career comeback, including securing a role in the YouTube hit series Kamum.

Career Background of DJ Shiti

His love for comedy began at an early age, when he often entertained family members with jokes and imitations of his late aunt.

Shiti started performing plays from set books and stand-up comedy at Nakuru Players Theatre.

After moving to Nairobi to audition for The Churchill Show, Shiti said he was rejected by his relatives and found himself homeless.

However, his talent was later recognized on the national stage through the show, which became his entry point into the comedy industry.

Shiti later rose to fame after playing the character “DJ Shiti” in the popular TV series The Real Housewives of Kawangware.

His growing popularity has led to major brand endorsements, including serving as a StarTimes brand ambassador between 2017 and 2018.

Shiti has since evolved into a multi-talented digital entertainer, thriving in stand-up comedy, acting, and social media skits.
