How to Join DCP Party, Membership Requirements, and Charges

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) is a Kenyan political party led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The party was launched on June 3, 2025, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi by the party officials.

As part of grassroots engagement and the party’s expansion, Kenyans who have attained the voting age of 18 must not be active members of another political party at the time of registration.

To join the party, one must have a valid Identification card or passport and be willing to abide by the Constitution of the Party.

DCP Membership Registration Process

DCP allows its members to be registered in two ways;

Registration through the party website

Registration through USSD code.

A. Register Online or Through Party Website

  1. Go to DCP’s official membership/registration page on the party’s website.

  2. Complete the online membership form with your personal details, including your ID number, contact information, and the area you live in, such as your Ward.

  3. Submit and await confirmation by email or SMS.

B. Register Via USSD (through ORPP system)

Kenyan law requires political party membership to be recorded through the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP)

  1. *Dial 509# on your phone.

  2. Register if this is your first time to get your ORPP PIN.

  3. Use the PIN and choose “Membership”, then choose “Join a Party”.

  4. Enter party name (DCP) and party code 829.

  5. Provide your county, constituency, and ward codes, and confirm.

How to Deregister as a Member

To deregister as a member of DCP, the party states that one should send an email to [email protected] or dial the USSD number *509# from your phone and follow the steps.

DCP, Membership Fees & Charges

According to the DCP Party Constitution (2025), the membership subscription fees are:

Membership Category Registration Fee Annual Subscription
Ordinary KSh 100 KSh 50
Youth & Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) KSh 50 KSh 50
Life KSh 100,000 KSh 10,000
Gold KSh 600,000 KSh 100,000

The charges are usually paid through an approved official channels party bank account, or payment methods listed by DCP.

How to Vie on a DCP Party Ticket

DCP allows eligible members to contest for elective positions under its ticket, subject to the party’s nomination rules and the Political Parties Act.

Aspirants must meet both party and Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) requirements.

Eligibility to Vie on a DCP Ticket

To qualify as a DCP aspirant, one must:

  • Be a registered DCP member in good standing

  • Have been a party member for the minimum period set by the party before nominations

  • Be a registered voter in the relevant electoral area

  • Meet IEBC constitutional requirements for the specific elective seat

  • Not be a member of another political party at the time of nomination

  • Agree to abide by DCP nomination rules, code of conduct, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
