Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua allegedly demanded Ksh8 billion from President William Ruto to resign and allow him to appoint a new deputy.
According to NTV, it is alleged that there was a meeting between the President and his deputy, during which Gachagua made the demand.

However, it is claimed that DP Gachagua angered his boss when he banged the table after being denied the exit package following sharp differences between the two.
This is said to be at the center of charges to be leveled against Gachagua on the floor of the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Gachagua allegedly arrived at the amount by multiplying each vote for Ruto in Mt. Kenya by Ksh4,000.

Among the accusations is Gachagua’s alleged use of his office to divert materials meant for the construction of the Malindi-Kilifi highway to the construction of a private hotel in Kilifi linked to him.
The DP is also accused of accumulating Ksh5.7 billion in the last two years from sources other than his annual salary of Ksh12 million.

Other charges likely to be brought against the DP include sponsoring goons to disrupt the Gen-Z demonstrations in June and July, posing a threat to national security.
He is also accused of leaking state secrets despite having taken an oath of secrecy, as well as threatening, intimidating, and publicly condemning state officials, including MPs and National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.
More charges include promoting tribalism through his “shareholder” narratives and advocating for the “one man, one vote, one shilling” revenue distribution formula.
Gachagua Aska MPs to Impeach Ruto
Gachagua is also accused of publicly opposing certain government policies and cabinet decisions.
Meanwhile, Gachagua has stated that President Ruto should also step down if he is impeached.
During a tour of Mt. Kenya East, Gachagua said he is the reason the head of state received votes from the region.
“Now, there are people telling the President that he wouldn’t have been elected without Gachagua. If I wasn’t on the ballot, would you have voted for Ruto? How is it possible that you now don’t want Gachagua, but you want Ruto? Is that even possible?” he asked.

Gachagua urged President Ruto to allow him to work as they had promised the people of Kenya.
The DP claimed that President Ruto was being misled by the youthful politicians around him adding that he will have problems with the Mt. Kenya people should he follow their advice.
“Don’t be misled by the youth close to you into thinking you can touch the DP who has millions of followers. If you agree to that, you will have problems with 7 million people from Mt. Kenya,” he said.
