United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders who did not win elective seats in Kisumu County have asked President William Ruto to consider them when making state appointments.
The leaders led by UDA Kisumu Chairperson Erick Osenya noted that despite not garnering significant votes in the Nyanza region, the head of state had tried to appoint people from the region.
“We thereby thank the President for appointing a large number of Luo nation as CAS and it is a great honor for the community despite that we did not give a large number of votes,” he said.
“We however do feel that next time such a thing is done members who fought for UDA and particularly the candidates should be given also some considerations because as it stands none of our candidates in the entire Kisumu has been considered.” Osenya added.
Moreover, Mr. Osenya appealed to the president to consider candidates who were unsuccessful in the 2022 general elections in Kisumu for various positions while making state appointments.

He added that some of these candidates suffered greatly and made enemies within the community which largely supported Azimio Coalition to ensure Kenya Kwanza Coalition obtained votes.
“We are not against any person or member of the Luo community being appointed, but the party should also consider the 11,000 votes received from Kisumu. All we are requesting the President is that he should at least consider some of the candidates.” Osenya stated.
Nonetheless, the Kisumu UDA leaders Odenyo’s made this appeal after the head of state nominated 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries to deputize Cabinet Secretary.
President Ruto mostly rewarded his loyalists who lost elections in August 2022 in the nominations.
He also increased the number of CASs from 29 to 50, a move that has solicited mixed reactions from Kenyans.
Aside from the loyal politicians who lost in the polls, president Ruto also rewarded individuals who played a vital role in his campaigns behind the scenes including Dennis Itumbi, a digital strategist who has been nominated to deputize ICT CS Eliud Owalo.
