The Deputy President yesterday pledge his support to Urbanus Mutunga Muthama Ngengele for the Machakos Senatorial by-election on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
This, came after the Party Leader, Johnstone Muthama, and other leaders from Machakos decided to support Ngengele.
The leaders had a consultative meeting at Ruto’s residential home in Karen.
Ruto congratulated the leaders and commended other leaders from the region for shelving their plans and support Ngengele.
“Our gratitude to them for their audacity and leadership to cede their aspirations and back Ngengele for the race,” he said.
He moreover urged other candidates to support Ngengele in the forthcoming by-elections.
Ruto said that there is room for democracy for any candidate who wishes to vie as an independent candidate.
Ngengele is vying to take the vacant position left by the late Senator Boniface Kabaka, who died on December 11, days after he got hospitalized after collapsing in a restaurant in Nairobi.
He is to face-off other opponents like Agnes Kavindu, who will vie on Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.
