Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) has proposed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) picks the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga Winnie Odinga as a deputy party leader.
Speaking on January 3, Aladwa asked ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and acting party leader Oburu Oginga to sit down and consider the proposal.
He added that the party could create an additional position for a fourth deputy party leader, allowing Winnie Odinga to take up the role.
“Party leaders should sit down at the National Executive Committee (NEC) and deliberate on the roles of both Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and acting party leader Oburu Oginga, and agree on the way forward,” he said.
“I have proposed that Winnie Odinga be appointed a deputy party leader. She can fill the position left vacant after the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga exited the Nairobi Delegates Committee. The party can also create a fourth deputy party leader position to accommodate another nominee.”
Currently ODM has three deputy party leaders that include; Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
Winnie Odinga to Be Made ODM Deputy Party Leader
Aladwa added that the growing tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement’s top leadership, had undermined party unity and risked destabilizing ODM’s structures in Nairobi.
The Makadara Member of Parliament described the situation as regrettable, noting that barely months after the death of former party leader Raila Odinga, individuals entrusted with the party’s leadership were now facing internal squabbles.
He called for an emergency meeting of the party’s organs to restore order.
In November 23, Aladwa called on ODM party leader and Siaya senator Oburu Oginga to reach out to Winnie.
The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP recently caused a storm in the party after she claimed that certain ODM party officials were planning to sell the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Winnie who has been vocal against the current leadership of ODM, signaled discomfort with the decision to choose Oburu as the party leader, urging the party to convene an NDC to allow members to decide the party’s direction.
“We need to go back to the people and have an NDC to see who they want to pick to manage that same relationship,” she said.
Speaking on Saturday during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa, Winnie warned that those seeking to take charge saying they must first seek legitimacy from ODM members.
Her statements raised questions about whether the family will continue to work together as a political dynasty.

Oburu Odinga Fears
Oburu publicly revealed that he feared a fallout within his family’s political dynasty following the death of his brother.
In an interview with the Daily Nation on Thursday, November 20, Oginga said he had warned the former Prime Minister about unresolved family matters.
Oburu said he had the concerns with Raila just days before his death, urging him to resolve the matter to prevent future disputes among their children.
“I was telling him that there are a few things which are outstanding in the family, including the estate, which we had managed with him,” he said.
