The government has announced that Kenyans will now receive digital birth and death certificates.
Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok made the announcement on Tuesday, January 31 which will see the hustle of accessing the documents manually eased.
PS Bitok stated that as from March 1, 2023, Kenyans will get the documents digitally as President William Ruto’s administration moves to digitize government services.
Over the past years, Kenyans had to go through difficulties to get the documents with some forced to travel to their rural homes to pick their birth certificates.

In October 2022, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo said his ministry will prioritize digitization of government services and all government records.
According to Owalo, the move is aimed at making the country an efficient, paperless society and a friendly environment.
The CS further stated that the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy will also put in place a contact center for the public, a channel that will be used by the government to hold conversations with its citizenry.
“President Dr. William Ruto envisages an open government that hold conversations with its citizens. We are therefore going to create an efficient and timeous platform for ongoing conversations with the people of Kenya, regardless of where they may be in the world,” Owalo said.
