Ronald Karauri Kamwiko is a Kenyan businessman and politician currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Kasarani Constituency in Nairobi County.
Before his political career, he was a pilot with Kenya Airways and the Chief Executive Officer of SportPesa.
He is also the son of the late Mathews Adams Karauri, a former Member of Parliament for Tigania Constituency.
Early Life & Education
Ronald Kamwiko Karauri was born in Meru County, where his father, Mathews Adams Karauri, served as a Member of Parliament for Tigania Constituency.
He was raised in Buruburu estate, Nairobi, where he attended Harambee Primary School, completing his primary education in the early 1990s.
In 1993, he joined Mang’u High School, a national school renowned for science and technology education.
He graduated in 1996, attaining his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). In 1997, Karauri enrolled at the University of Nairobi to study Mechanical Engineering.
He completed three years of coursework before leaving in 1999 to pursue aviation training, drawn by his passion for flying and the opportunities within the airline industry.
He later obtained his Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority in 2014–2015, which certified him to captain commercial aircraft and positioned him for senior roles in aviation.
Career
Professional career
Ronald Karauri began his professional journey in aviation after leaving the University of Nairobi.
In 2003, he joined Kenya Airways as a First Officer, flying regional and international routes while gaining experience in flight operations and safety procedures.
In 2009, he was promoted to Captain, a role he held until 2015, commanding wide-body aircraft and participating in senior flight operations.
In 2016, Karauri transitioned into the corporate sector by co-founding SportPesa under Pevans East Africa, where he served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) until 2022.
Under his leadership, SportPesa expanded into multiple countries, became a leading sports betting company in Kenya, and sponsored key sports teams and tournaments.

From 2017, he has also served as Chairman of the Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya (AGOK), advocating for responsible gaming, fair industry regulation, and sustainable growth in the betting sector.
Political Career
In February 2022, Ronald Kamwiko Karauri declared his candidacy for the Kasarani parliamentary seat as an Independent.
His campaign focused on youth empowerment, sports development, business-friendly policies, and infrastructure improvement.
He won the August 9, 2022, General Election, officially declared on August 11, 2022, becoming the first Independent MP elected in Nairobi County in the 13th Parliament.
After assuming office, Karauri was appointed to the Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education (PIC-GE) in late 2022, where he contributes to oversight of public funds and education policies.
