Ukrainian forces have dealt a significant blow to Russian military capabilities in the southern theater, destroying multiple high-value assets in a series of precision drone strikes on October 29.
The operations, confirmed by Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service and the Southern Defense Forces, targeted and eliminated three Russian electronic warfare (EW) vehicles and a Soviet-era Osa surface-to-air missile (SAM) system.

The strikes come amid intensified Ukrainian counteroffensives aimed at degrading Russia’s ability to jam communications and defend against aerial threats.
According to a statement by Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, drone pilots from the Strix strike UAV unit of the 4th Border Guard Detachment executed a successful operation on the Southern Slobozhanshchyna front.
The unit deployed FPV drones to destroy four enemy positions, a fortified shelter, and three Russian vehicles, one of which was reportedly transporting ammunition.
The coordinated attacks have once again reflected Ukraine’s growing reliance on first-person view (FPV) drones and real-time intelligence to neutralize technologically superior but increasingly vulnerable Russian systems.
The operation was carried out with precision, leveraging real-time reconnaissance and rapid drone deployment.
The destroyed vehicles are believed to include electronic warfare platforms, although the specific models have not been disclosed.
The use of FPV drones—small, agile, and cost-effective—has become a hallmark of Ukraine’s evolving battlefield tactics, allowing for high-impact strikes with minimal risk to personnel.
This latest success adds to a growing list of EW systems neutralized by Ukrainian forces in recent weeks.

Russia’s Osa SAM System Eliminated in Southern Ukraine
In another operation on the same day, the Ukrainian Southern Defense Forces confirmed the destruction of a Russian Osa-AKM surface-to-air missile system.
The strike occurred in the southern direction, likely within the Kherson region, and was carried out with a precision-guided munition, possibly launched from a HIMARS platform.
The Osa-AKM, a mobile short-range air defense system developed in the 1970s, is designed to intercept aircraft, helicopters, and drones at ranges of up to 15 kilometers and altitudes of up to 10 kilometers. Despite its age, the system remains in active use by Russian forces and is valued at approximately $10 million.
Footage released by the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces shows the Osa system concealed along a dirt road before being struck by a missile.
The impact resulted in a direct hit, destroying the launcher and rendering the system inoperable.

The operation was reportedly coordinated by the 73rd Naval Special Purpose Center, whose drone operators identified the target during a reconnaissance mission.

The dual strikes underscore Ukraine’s strategic shift toward asymmetric warfare, in which low-cost drones and agile units dismantle expensive, complex enemy systems.
By targeting EW and air defense assets, Ukrainian forces are systematically eroding Russia’s ability to control the electromagnetic spectrum and defend its positions from aerial threats.
