Kenya Met Lists Regions to Experience Rain & Cold Nights This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has shared a weather outlook for the period between September 17 and September 23.

In a statement on September 16, the Weatherman said that most parts of Kenya will remain sunny and dry, urging citizens to stay safe and plan ahead.

However, rainfall is expected in some areas of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the Coast.

“Localized showers will be concentrated in the highlands and coastal regions. Stay alert for possible rainfall,” KMD warned.

High temperatures of over 30°C are expected in the South Rift Valley, Coast, southeastern lowlands, Western, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya during the day.

KMD advised Kenyans to expect chilly nights with temperatures dropping below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and southeastern lowlands.

Wednesday, September 18, Weather Forecast

KMD had initially issued a five-day weather outlook for the period between September 14 and September 18, 2024.

The weather department mentioned that there would be a chance of showers in a few places on the night of September 17 (today), with a maximum temperature of 32°C and a minimum temperature of 9°C.

For September 18, the nights will be partly cloudy, with temperatures rising to 31°C and falling to 9°C in regions around the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley.

Counties in the named regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.

Rift Valley Counties

Northwestern regions, which include Turkana and Samburu Counties, will experience sunny intervals throughout the day, with the night being partly cloudy. The temperature will range between 12°C and 38°C on September 18.

The Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Counties, will experience rains over a few places in the morning and showers in the afternoon. There are chances of showers at night with temperatures ranging from 6°C to 29°C.

Northeastern counties, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will have sunny intervals throughout the day and partly cloudy nights, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 39°C.

Eastern & Coastal regions

Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties will experience sunny intervals throughout the day and partly cloudy nights, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 32°C.

Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, will experience showers over a few places during the day and night, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 31°C.
