The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has published the weather outlook for the period between November 5 and November 11, 2024. In its latest forecast, Kenya Met predicted that seven regions will receive rainfall and experience isolated storms during the week.
“Rainfall is expected in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, southeastern lowlands, Coast, and northeastern Kenya during the first half of the week. Isolated storms may occur,” KMD said.
The 7-day cumulative rainfall forecast shows that the majority of the country will receive rainfall between 10 to 20mm.
Certain parts of Meru, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Machakos will receive rainfall between 50 to 70mm.
Some parts of Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi and Nyandarua are expected to receive rainfall between 70 and 100 mm during this period.
There are also certain areas within Meru, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi counties with a rainfall distribution of between 100 to 120mm.
According to KMD, the second half of the week is likely to be generally sunny and dry.
Maximum & Minimum Temperatures
Average daytime (maximum) temperatures will exceed 30°C in several areas, including northeastern and northwestern Kenya.
Parts of the counties Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Tana River, and Lamu are expected to experience temperatures exceeding 35°C during this period.
Additionally night-time (minimum) temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley.
Areas in Kenya expected to experience minimum temperatures below 8°C include parts of: Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyanga, Nakuru, Taita Taveta and Nakuru.

October to December Weather Forecast
Kenya Met recently released a forecast for October-November-December (OND) 2024 short-rains season.
The weatherman noted that the Central Highlands typically record the highest seasonal rainfall, often exceeding 700mm.
Kenya Met predicts slightly above-average rainfall in Western Kenya and near to below-average rainfall in central areas and isolated parts of the northeastern and southeastern lowlands.

Additionally, they expect below-average rainfall across the Coastal region, much of the Northeast, and the Southeastern lowlands.
Kenya Met also anticipates poor rainfall distribution in various regions, characterized by extended dry spells and occasional isolated storms.
They forecast warmer-than-average temperatures in most areas, except for some in the western sector, where maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to stay near normal.
Warmer-than-average temperatures are expected with higher probability in the central and eastern regions.
