The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a seven-day weather forecast for the period between October 22 and October 28, 2024.
The forecast comes in the wake of heavy rains experienced in Nairobi’s Capital and some other parts of the country.

In its forecast, the Kenya Meteorological Department predicted regions expected to receive heavy and moderate rains.
KMD predicts occasional rainfall is expected over the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley during the seven days.

According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, some parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, counties in the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall and the rest of the country is likely to be generally sunny and dry.
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties.

Kenya Meteorological Department Issues Seven-Day Forecast
During the seven days, the above regions are likely to experience rains in the morning over a few places except on Saturday when it is expected it will rain in a few places.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to be experienced in the above regions in the afternoon.
During the night showers are expected over a few places except on Friday and Saturday with a chance of showers over a few places
In the afternoon, the regions will experience showers and thunderstorms over a few places.

Maximum temperatures of 31°C are expected to be experienced in those regions.
Similarly, regions of the coast which include Mombasa Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as coastal parts of Tana River County will mainly experience a chance of showers over a few places during the morning and in the afternoon it will mostly experience sunny intervals.
During the night these regions will be partly cloudy.
Maximum temperatures experienced during the week will be 33°C nd minimum temperatures experienced would range from 23°C to 25°C.
Other regions which include North Eastern, North Western, South Western and South Eastern Lowlands will remain generally sunny and dry.
The Met Department Warns of Increased Malaria
Moreover, the Met Department warned nighttime temperatures may drop below 10°C in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, South-eastern lowlands, and Central Rift Valley and therefore advised members residing in those areas to keep warm.
At the same time, the weatherman has warned Kenyans about the increased risk of malaria due to climate change, resulting in excess heatwaves and making Kenyans more vulnerable to the disease.

“Under a very high emissions scenario, climate change is predicted to result in an additional 75.9 million people at risk from malaria in eastern and southern Africa by 2080, with the greatest risk in eastern Africa,” the Met Department warned.
