The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a five-day weather forecast for the period between October 18 and October 23, 2024.
Kenya Met published the weather outlook in the wake of heavy rains in the country’s capital Nairobi.

In its forecast, Kenya Met predicted regions expected to receive heavy and moderate rains.
Nairobi residents and Kenyans in other select regions should brace themselves for showers and thunderstorms accompanied by low temperatures for the next five days.

According to the weatherman, some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, counties in the Lake Victoria and the Rift Valley regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nairobi County and central Kenya counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties.

“Rainfall is expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya as well as over a few areas in the South-eastern lowlands and North-eastern Kenya.
Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya,” announced Kenya Met.
In the areas Highlands East of the Rift Valley and Nairobi, showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoons while only showers are expected over few places during the nights.
Kenya Met on Minimum and maximum temperatures
Cloudy mornings breaking into sunny intervals are expected over few (mostly high ground) areas as per the advisory.

Also, residents in these regions will experience minimum temperatures of up to 10°C and maximum of 31°C.
On the other hand, the low temperatures in some places of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the five days.
Kenya Met predicted that the areas will experience showers in the mornings, showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoons and showers over few places during the night.
These includes the counties of West Pokot, Siaya, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Busia.
These regions are not expected to experience Sunny intervals, with maximum temperatures predicted at 30°C.
Parts of Kenya to remain dry
At the same time, the weather department said that the rest of the country will be generally dry.

Maximum high daytime temperatures of more than 32°C will be experienced in parts of the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
Areas within the South-eastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties are set to experience minimum temperatures of 10°C and 34°C maximum.
According to the Kenya Met, the high temperatures are to be experienced mostly during afternoons which are expected to be covered by sunny intervals while most nights will remain partly cloudy.
Showers are however expected over few places within these regions especially in the afternoon and night.
North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties will also receive showers with maximum temperatures of 39°C especially during the day.
