Kenya Met Releases Five-Day Weather Outlook As Nairobi Endures Chilly Mornings

The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released a five-day weather forecast for the period between October 12 and October 16, 2024.

According to the forecast, most parts of the country are likely to be generally sunny and dry.

However, rainfall is expected over some parts of the highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast.

The rest of the country is likely to be generally sunny and dry.

Counties in the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to receive rains in the morning over a few places from October 12 to October 15, 2024.

However, the morning of October 16, is expected to have a chance of rain over a few places.

Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot counties.

Additionally, afternoons in these regions are forecast to have showers and thunderstorms over a few places with chances of showers at night.

Maximum temperatures in the locations are forecast to range from 30°C to 31°C with lows of 10°C to 12°C.

Weather in Nairobi and Surrounding Counties

For counties in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, mornings are expected to be cloudy on some days and with chances of showers on others.

These areas include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka.

On the mornings of October 12 14, and 16, the weather is expected to be cloudy breaking into sunny intervals, while on October 13 and October 15, there is a chance of rain over a few places.

Residents in these areas should expect a chance of showers over few places in the afternoon and during nights.

Furthermore, the highest temperatures in these areas are predicted to be between 28°C and 30°C and the minimum 5°C to 8°C.

Turkana and Samburu Counties

Sunny intervals are expected in the morning in Turkana and Samburu Counties from October 12 to October 15. However, October 16 will have a chance of rain over a few places.

During afternoons, these areas will have sunny intervals on October 12 and October 14, with a chance of rain on October 13.

At the same time, the afternoons of October 15 and October 16 are predicted to have showers and thunderstorms over few places.

Nights in these counties will be partly cloudy on October 12, October 13, and October 14 while the two remaining days will have sowers over a few places.

Maximum temperatures are forecast to be 35°C to 38°C with lows of 12°C to 15°C.

North Eastern Counties

For Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo Counties, mornings of October 12, October 13, and October 16 are expected to have a chance of rain over a few places while October  14 and 15 will experience sunny intervals.

Afternoons of October 13 and October 14 are forecast to have sunny intervals. However, October 12, October 15, and October 16 could have a chance of rain over a few places in these counties.

Nights of October 13 and October 14 are expected to be partly cloudy while the rest will have a chance of showers over a few places.

As for maximum temperatures, these northeastern regions will have highs of 36°C to 38°C and lows of   15°C 17°C.

South Eastern Lowlands

Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties and inland parts of Tana River County are predicted to have sunny mornings from October 12 to October 16.

Afternoons will also be sunny except for October 12 and October 16, which are predicted to have showers over a few places.

Nights will be partly cloudy except for a chance of showers on October 12.

Maximum temperatures will range from 30°C to 33°C and lows of 12°C to 14°C.

Coast Regions       

Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties and coastal parts of Tana River County are forecast to have showers over a few places in the mornings of October 12 to October 14 and sunny intervals on October 15 and October 16.

The same conditions are predicted for the afternoons. Nights will be partly cloudy except for October 13.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be 32°C to 33°C and minimum 22°C to 23°C in these areas.
