Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, met United States President Donald Trump.

The two met in New York on Friday, September 12, days after Israel launched a strike in Doha that killed a Qatari security official and five Hamas members.

Qatar’s deputy chief of mission, Hamah Al-Muftah, posted on X, saying, “Great dinner with POTUS. Just ended.”

During the meeting, Trump stated that he was “very unhappy” about Israel’s striking targets in Qatar.

According to Qatari officials, the Hamas members killed were discussing a new deal proposed by President Trump to end the nearly two-year Gaza war.

However, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency said earlier that the targeted strike was aimed at senior Hamas leaders who have directed the group’s activities for years.

The military added that these leaders were directly responsible for the October 7 attacks and for coordinating the ongoing conflict against Israel.

The attack, which targeted a Hamas meeting in the Qatari capital on Tuesday, was seen as a direct attempt to disrupt ceasefire talks mediated by Doha.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Meets JD Vance

Ahead of Friday’s dinner with Trump, the Qatari Foreign Minister met Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House, where discussions centered on Israel’s strike and the future of U.S.–Qatar security cooperation.

The meeting addressed the close strategic relations between the State of Qatar and the United States of America and ways to advance them, in addition to discussing developments in the region.

During the meeting, US Vice President affirmed his solidarity with the State of Qatar, noting that diplomatic solutions are capable of resolving outstanding issues in the region.

He appreciated the State of Qatar’s tireless mediation efforts and its effective role in bringing peace to the region, stressing that the State of Qatar is a reliable strategic ally of the United States of America.

Qatar has been a key mediator in efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, release Israeli hostages, and plan for the territory’s future after the war.

Doha to Host Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Israeli Attack

In a subsequent statement on Saturday, September 13, Qatar’s government announced that Doha will host an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on Monday, September 15, in response to Israel’s recent strike on the Qatari capital.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on September 13, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Majid bin Mohammed Al Ansari said the summit will review a draft resolution on the Israeli attack, which will be prepared during a meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers scheduled for Sunday.

He stressed that the timing of the summit carries deep significance, reflecting broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with Qatar following what he described as “cowardly Israeli aggression” that targeted the residential headquarters of several Hamas leaders in Doha.

Al Ansari added that the emergency gathering will also highlight the collective rejection by Arab and Islamic countries of what he termed “state terrorism practiced by Israel.”

The summit comes amid heightened regional tensions, after Israel’s strike on Tuesday killed a Qatari security official and five Hamas members in the capital, an attack widely condemned across the Middle East.
