Russia, Ukraine Military Loss
Although the latest Ukrainian military losses are not well documented, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in February 2025 revealed that Ukraine had lost 45,100 military personnel since Russia’s full invasion.
Zelenskyy made the revelation during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, released on 4 February 2025.
President Zelensky was set to present a revised peace plan to the U.S. on December 9, as Ukraine pushes back against the U.S. ‘ demands to cede territory to Russia.
Zelenskyy noted that he has “no right” to surrender Ukrainian land under either domestic or international law.
His allies insist that Ukraine cannot give up land, warning that doing so would reward Russian aggression.

However, the Trump administration has indicated that Ukraine may need to cede territory to secure a peace deal, a move Zelensky has consistently ruled out.
“Russia is insisting that we give up territories, but we don’t want to cede anything. We have no legal right to do so under Ukrainian law, our constitution, and international law. And we don’t have any moral right either,” he said
President Donald Trump, speaking on December 9, stated that Ukraine had lost significant territory to Russia before his involvement.
“Do you think Ukraine has lost this war? Well, they’ve lost territory long before I got here. They lost a whole strip of seafront, big seafront-trump,” he said.
He highlighted the situation in Crimea, describing it as “huge, but connected to that part of Ukraine we’re talking about now, right? By a little narrow isthmus. It’s four sides of the ocean in the warmest part. The best weather, the best everything. But Obama gave it away.”
