Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday, October 11.
In a statement on his X account, Zelenskyy said he congratulated Trump on his success in securing a Middle East peace deal, calling it “an outstanding achievement.”
He expressed hope that if conflict can be stopped in one region, it is also possible to end the war in Ukraine.
During the conversation on October 11, Zelenskyy briefed Trump on recent Russian attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and thanked him for his willingness to support Kyiv.
The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense systems and other “concrete agreements” under development.
“I had a call with US President Donald Trump—a very positive and productive one. I congratulated him on his success and the Middle East deal he secured, which is an outstanding achievement.
“If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well, including the Russian war.”
Zelenskyy And Trump Hold Talks on Russia’s Ongoing War
Zelenskyy said there are promising options and concrete ideas on how to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses.
He noted that any progress toward peace would depend on Moscow’s willingness to engage in genuine diplomacy — a goal, he said, that “can be achieved through strength.”
“There needs to be readiness on the Russian side to engage in real diplomacy—this can be achieved through strength,” he said.

Ukrainian Drones Strike Russian Oil Refinery
Drones operated by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) struck a Russian oil refinery in the Republic of Bashkortostan early on October 11, triggering multiple explosions and a fire, a source within the agency told the Kyiv Independent.
The attack targeted the Bashnafta-UNPZ plant in Ufa — one of Russia’s largest refining hubs — which produces fuel and lubricants for the Russian Armed Forces, according to the source.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that its air defenses shot down five Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over Bashkortostan on the same day, though local authorities have yet to comment on potential damage or casualties.
The refinery, located roughly 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) from the front line in Ukraine, is the third target in Bashkortostan to be hit by SBU drones within the past month — part of a broader campaign against Russia’s oil and gas sector, a key revenue source fueling Moscow’s war effort.
