Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has downplayed the alleged rift between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua describing the reports as “games and gimmicks” strategy to win sympathy from Mt. Kenya residents.
Owino, speaking to the press on June 12, spoke on the matter claiming that the President and his deputy were both engaging in what he terms as “a sympathy strategy.”
He added that the duo intends to continue with the plot until the next general election, when they will purportedly make up and win back voters.
“There is no fight here, these are games and gimmicks. I want Kenyans to remember that these people are going to work together. I want to tell Kikuyus, as Babu Owino, your son-in-law, be careful of these two musketeers,” Owino said.
According to Owino, President Ruto will appear as if he is fighting with Gachagua, so that the latter goes on a self-isolation mission where he will attract sympathy from his backyard.
The Mt. Kenya region will then rally behind DP Gachagua as one of their own.

“The president purports to be fighting his Deputy intentionally and they’ve agreed for that matter, so that the people from Mount Kenya can rally behind Rigathi and say that one of our own is being fought,” Owino stated.
Results of the Reelection Ploy
Babu Owino noted that the result of this plot would see Gachagua reclaiming the support of the central region before reconciling with his boss.
He added that following this, the two would then rally their supporters aiming for another shot at the top positions.
“After some time in the future, all people from Mt. Kenya shall have rallied behind Gachagua and he will still deliver them to Ruto purporting that they have made up and that there is peace that has been brokered.”
“Therefore, there is no fight here, these people are pretending so that they can get the people of Mt. Kenya,” added the MP.
Babu Owino Warns Mt. Kenya People
Owino warned the people of Mt. Kenya region against falling prey to these “gimmicks”, urging them to instead consider joining the opposition which he claims has their best interests at heart.
“These people have lost favor in the eyes of wananchi everywhere in this country, specifically in Central region where they promised heaven and delivered the people of Mt. Kenya region to hell, and right now people are hurting in Mt. Kenya.”
“These people have no good intentions to help you but to destroy you, join this side and let us deal with these people,” said Owino.
The Rift Between Ruto & Gachagua
The perceived rift between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua has been a topic of discussion in the past few days.
The rift has been attributed to several factors, including ideological differences and personal disagreements between the two leaders.

One of the main points of contention is the “one man, one vote, one shilling” revenue sharing proposal advocated by some Mt. Kenya leaders.
Deputy President Gachagua has thrown his support behind this proposal, which prioritizes population as a key factor in revenue allocation.
However, President Ruto has dismissed the proposal, urging leaders to avoid divisive tribal politics.
