Safaricom offers various premium services delivered to customers’ mobile phones through voice and SMS.
These Premium Rate Services (PRS) can be purchased directly via mobile phone or accessed online through WAP/Web pages. During onboarding, subscribers are informed about service charges and deactivation options to ensure a smooth user experience.
Examples of Premium Rate Services include news, entertainment, and sports updates delivered directly to users’ phones, as well as games that can be downloaded for mobile use.
They also cover SMS-based prize competitions, promotions, and lotteries, as well as interactive services such as IVR and USSD.
Bulk SMS services and alphanumeric name services also fall under this category.
However, some Safaricom users may unknowingly subscribe to premium SMS services, which can automatically deduct airtime whenever they top up, leading to unexpected losses.

How to Unsubscribe from Safaricom Premium SMS

Unsubscribe via SMS
To unsubscribe via SMS, start by identifying the shortcode, usually a five-digit number, that sent you the premium message.
Once you have the number, send the word STOP, and the subscription will be canceled. Note that standard SMS charges may apply for this process.

- Dial *100# (for prepaid) or *200# (for postpaid).
- Select Option 5: My Subscriptions or Premium Rate Services.
- Choose My Active SMS Services to view active subscriptions.
- Select the service you want to cancel and confirm.
- You will receive a confirmation SMS.

Using the MySafaricom App
- Download the MySafaricom App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Register with your Safaricom number.
- Open the app and go to Account.
- Tap on My Subscriptions.
- View available categories (SMS, Premium Services, Skiza, etc.).
- Select the service you wish to cancel, tap Unsubscribe, and confirm.
- A confirmation SMS will be sent.
- Contact Safaricom Customer Care
If you experience difficulties or suspect that you have unauthorized subscriptions, you can call 100 (free on Safaricom lines) or visit a Safaricom Shop for assistance.

Once you explain the issue, the customer care team will review your account and cancel any unwanted premium SMS services. Follow the prompts to disable premium content.
