Mandera County is located in Kenya’s northeastern region along the borders with Somalia and Ethiopia.
The County registered a total of 217,030 voters across its six constituencies according to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The distribution of registered voters varies widely among the constituencies.
Mandera East leads with 48,219 voters, followed by Mandera North with 45,216. Mandera West accounts for 37,637 registered voters, while Mandera South follows closely with 34,691.
Banissa Constituency has 32,703 voters, and Lafey has the lowest number, with 18,564 registered voters.

MPs per Mandera County Constituency
Each of the six constituencies is represented by a Member of Parliament, although Banissa remains without representation following the death of MP Kulow Maalim Hassan in March 2023.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has yet to conduct a by-election to fill the vacant seat.
Mandera’s parliamentary delegation includes Adan Haji Yussuf (Mandera West, UDM), Bashir Sheikh Abdullahi (Mandera North, UDM), Abdul Ebrahim Haro (Mandera South, UDM), Husseinweytan Mohamed Abdirahman (Mandera East, ODM), and Mohamed Abdi Abdirahman (Lafey, Jubilee).
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) enjoys a dominant presence in the region, with four of the six constituencies under its representation.

The flat, sparsely vegetated terrain is home to a predominantly Somali population, particularly the Garre clan, with Islam being the dominant religion.
The county’s current leadership includes Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif (UDM), who assumed office in 2022, Senator Ali Roba — the county’s former governor — and Woman Representative Amina Gedow Hassan.
Despite harsh climatic conditions and infrastructural challenges, Mandera continues to show strong civic engagement through voter registration, although issues such as security, underdevelopment, and political representation remain pressing concerns.
