On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced its plan to recruit 9,159 teachers to fill vacancies resulting from natural attrition across public primary, junior, and secondary schools.
According to TSC, the 9,159 vacancies will consist of 7,065 positions for primary schools, 12 for junior secondary schools, and 2,082 for senior schools. Successful applicants will be hired on Permanent and Pensionable (P&P) terms.
For primary schools (P1), there are 7,065 posts available, with Kitui County leading the way with 381 vacancies, making it the county with the highest number of openings. It is followed closely by Machakos with 320 vacancies and Kakamega with 319. Makueni is fourth with 316 vacancies.
Breakdown of How TSC Has Distributed 9,159 Teachers Jobs
Other counties with significant allocations include Meru (254 vacancies), Nakuru (253), and Baringo (239). In the Central region, Kiambu has 204 vacancies, while Bungoma in the Western region follows closely with 203. Kisumu County also has a notable 190 vacancies.
Additionally, Wajir has 177 vacancies, Siaya has 172, Narok has 169, Nandi has 163, and Kilifi has 159. Other counties with openings include Nyandarua (158), Trans Nzoia (157), Nairobi (155), and Nyeri (154).

Migori has 127 vacancies, while Embu has 147. Tharaka Nithi has 142, while Kisii, Kericho, Homa Bay, Busia, Uasin Gishu, and Turkana have 134, 133, 127, 125, 124, and 122, respectively.
Counties with relatively fewer openings include Taita Taveta (83), Garissa (76), Kajiado (74), West Pokot (73), Kirinyaga (70), Samburu (69), Mombasa (63), and Tana River (61). The counties with the fewest vacancies are Lamu (28) and Isiolo (23).

For the recruitment of teachers to fill 12 attrition vacancies in junior secondary schools (JSS), vacancies are distributed across the relevant counties as follows:

For Senior Schools, the Commission has published the distribution of vacancies for the recruitment of teachers to fill 2,082 attrition positions.

According to the document released by TSC, Kiambu stands out as the area with the highest number of vacancies, requiring 143 new teachers.
