Sonko Rushes to Kitengela After a Desperate Call From His Daughter

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has publicly recounted rushing to Kitengela after receiving a distress call from his daughter, who reported being physically assaulted.

The event unfolded after his daughter called her mother in distress, reporting that her husband had physically assaulted her.

In a video shared on his Facebook account, Sonko narrated that he rushed to Kitengela immediately after receiving the call.

As seen in a video by The Kenya Times, Sonko confronted his daughter’s husband angrily, criticizing him for his actions and ensuring his daughter’s safety by taking her away from the house, instructing the husband to follow later with his parents.

Sonko Responds to Daughters’ Disturbing Incident

According to the video and a recorded call shared on social media, the daughter explained that she had been slapped severely for asking her husband what to prepare for their children for breakfast.

“The guy slapped my daughter. Two slaps. He hit my daughter asking for breakfast. It was not good,” Sonko said.

He described the emotional and physical toll such incidents can have, noting that domestic violence can injure both the body and the soul.

“I’m very sure they’re suffering in silence, but we have to talk about these things. If my own daughter can face harassment in her own home, what about countless young women and men in Kenya who suffer silently,” Sonko said.

Victims Advised and Public Reactions

Sonko encouraged anyone who experiences abuse to seek medical and legal help, explaining the importance of checking for internal injuries.

“Internal injuries are very bad. It kills. You can even have clots without knowing,” he noted.

Sonko further appealed to parents, spouses, and society at large to prevent violence in homes.

He urged couples to choose dialogue and patience over anger and aggression, saying, “Marriage is never a smooth road, but when challenges turn into violence, the very foundation of that marriage is shaken. No one deserves that.”

Sonko also warned perpetrators that violence would no longer be tolerated, stating that the law and societal accountability must prevail.

“This nonsense of hitting women must stop. Whether you are poor or rich, don’t hit your own child. Just talk to her nicely,” he said.

The former governor’s action sparked debate on social media as the public joined him in supporting the fight against GBV.

“Sonko, I must applaud you for giving domestic violence a voice. As you say, DV knows no class; it is in high-end homes and in the lowest of the lowest. As a mother, I would request that you remove your daughter from this toxic relationship. The violence will never stop; he may even kill her. If you are paying all the bills in the home,” said Njeri Wa Mwangi, a former Nation Media Group Journalist.
