The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has detailed guidelines for teachers seeking reinstatement to the Register of Teachers after being removed from it.
According to the Commission, any teacher applying for reinstatement must have been removed from the register for at least 18 months.
Applicants are required to fill out the official Application form for Reinstatement and submit three copies to their respective TSC County Director.
The application must include a Certificate of Good Conduct, letters of recommendation from a local administrator and an education officer of at least the rank of a head of institution.
At the same time, a certified copy of the applicant’s National ID, academic, and professional certificates is required.
After the TSC due process, the Commission will either confirm the removal or reinstate the teacher’s name in the register.

Part A — Applicant’s Section
The form has two
Part A of the form is to be completed by the teacher seeking reinstatement.
The applicant is required to provide personal details, including name, age, TSC number, grade, last workstation, and reasons for interdiction.
A teacher who is seeking to be reinstated is required to provide personal and professional details such as:
- Full name and age
- Teaching Certificate and TSC numbers
- Grade, address, county, and sub-county
- Last workstation
- Date of interdiction and disciplinary case number
- Reasons for interdiction
- Date of determination of the disciplinary case
- The Commission’s decision
- Reasons or mitigating factors supporting the application for reinstatement
Applicants must also attach supporting documents, including a Certificate of Good Conduct, letters of recommendation from local administrators or education officers, and certified copies of academic and professional certificates.
The applicant must sign and submit the form along with the necessary documents.

Part B — Recommendation and Remarks
Part B is to be completed by education officials, including the Sub-County Director and the TSC County Director.
The section allows them to provide their remarks, recommendations, and official endorsements before forwarding the application to the Commission headquarters for final consideration.

Why a Teacher Can be Deregistered
TSC has the legal mandate to register, discipline, and, when necessary, deregister teachers in Kenya.
Deregistration is the permanent removal of a teacher’s name from the official TSC register, effectively ending their eligibility to teach in any public or private institution recognized by the Commission.
Under the Teachers Service Commission Act and the Code of Regulations for Teachers, the Commission can deregister a teacher on several grounds that reflect misconduct, criminal behavior, or professional negligence.
