Russian President Vladimir Putin has launched retaliatory strikes on Ukraine, just days after the United Kingdom (UK) pledged to supply Kyiv with 10,000 drones.
In a social media post on June 10, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Kyiv had endured one of the largest attacks to date, with widespread strikes involving Shahed drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.
“In total, Russia used 315 drones in the attack, including 250 Shaheds, and 7 missiles, 2 of which were North Korean-made ballistic missiles. Residential buildings and urban infrastructure were damaged. In Odesa, even a maternity hospital became a Russian target. Thirteen people were injured. Tragically, there are fatalities. My condolences to the families,” read part of his post.
Further, he noted that other regions impacted by the strikes included Odesa, Dnipro, and Chernihiv.
Putin Attack on Ukraine
On June 9, 2025, Kyiv endured a relentless five-hour overnight assault, as waves of Russian attacks simultaneously struck multiple regions.
Overnight, Russia unleashed a direct attack on Kyiv, launching 315 drones and missiles, while sections of the southern port city of Odesa were affected.
Just over a week ago, Ukraine carried out a drone offensive targeting more than 40 Russian bomber aircraft across four military airbases.

Call For Peace
Zelensky has urged the United States and other nations to intervene and pressure Russia into engaging in peace talks. He has also called for tangible action from countries that have long advocated for diplomacy and an end to the conflict, requests that Russia has consistently ignored.
“The response to this and other similar Russian attacks mustn’t be silence from the world, but concrete action. Action from America, which has the power to force Russia into peace. Action from Europe, which has no alternative but to be strong. There must be strong pressure for the sake of peace,” read his statement.
A Ukrainian military airfield was targeted in what appears to be a retaliatory move by President Putin following Ukraine’s daring drone strike.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that Ukraine deployed 117 drones in a coordinated operation that destroyed over a third of Russia’s cruise missile carriers.
Additionally, he confirmed that individuals who assisted with the mission were safely evacuated from Russian territory before the strikes.

Trump Call to Putin
On June 4, 2025, Trump held a phone conversation with Putin in a bid to continue with the ongoing peace talks.
During the conversation, the Russian President said he would respond to Ukraine’s major drone attack on Russian airbases.
“President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” Trump said.
Trump stated that while the conversation was productive, it did not result in any breakthrough toward ending the war. The call lasted for more than one hour.
