A Kamiti prison warden Jackson Kuria Kihara, popularly known as Cop Shakur, was on Tuesday, July 9, arrested while protesting outside the Parliament Building.
In videos shared online, the officer is seen wearing a white dustcoat with writings with red ink on the front and back.
Bloody government was written on his back.
Cop Shakur was also holding a placard during his solo protest outside the parliament premises. Officers manning the premises tries to push him away, but he was relentless and kept going back.
“Isn’t that your brother who died? (Huyo si ndugu yako mwenye alikufa?),” he asked the officers who kept pushing him away from the premises.

“We want justice, not your condolences,” the placard read.
The officers then chased away onlookers in the vicinity before arresting Cop Shakur.

Cop Shakur During Protests
The 25-year-old officer gained recognition from Kenyans for being outspoken during protest against the Finance Bill 2024 and the controversial police mission in Haiti.
Following the protests, his lawyer stated that he had disappeared raising alarm over his abduction.
Additionally, the lawyer stated that individuals posing as Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) agents to visit his home, but only found his wife.
However, Shakur surfaced at Uhuru Park during a concert organized by Kenyan activists in honor of those who died during the protests.
While being interviewed during the event, he expressed his pride for Kenya especially for showing up during the protests.
Moreover, he said that he still had his job as an officer, admitting that participating in the protests had landed him in trouble.
“I am patriot. I love Kenyans and I am a real cop and still a cop until further notice.”

Java Security Guard Who Shielded Protestors Speak
On July 9, Vincent Chepkwony, a security guard stationed at Java’s Kimathi Street branch under Hatari Security Group, addressed claims by the company that he was not terminated but had absconded his duties.
Chepkwony gained attention following an incident on June 18, 2024, where he was seen protecting anti-government protestors at a Java outlet in Nairobi.
The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) intervened in the case confirming that the employer had agreed to reinstate the guard immediately deeming his actions to be heroic and commendable.
“After a comprehensive review, the Authority firmly concluded that Mr Chepkwony’s actions were heroic, patriotic and commendable and therefore warranted a promotion and not a dismissal from duty,” stated PSRA.
