The Ministry of Transport plans to rehabilitate and upgrade Mombasa Road at a cost of Sh9 billion
Speaking on Saturday during the commissioning of the Nairobi Expressway for trials , Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said the planned upgrade will include the construction of a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) line to help ease transport congestion along the busy road.
Macharia said the rehabilitation works will also entail re-carpeting, fixing of the drainage systems, construction of pedestrian pathways and fixing of the lighting system.
The expressway opened for trials on Saturday, with 11,000 vehicles registered to use the multi-billion road in the trial face.
The 27km road runs from Mlolongo passing through JKIA and Nairobi’s CBD to the James Gichuru junction along Waiyaki Way.
