Three pupils at Tot Primary School and a herder were on Sunday, May 29 shot dead by bandits in Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The three children aged between 7 and 12 years old are said to have been playing in a nearby field when bandits sprayed the area with bullets. Moreover, six other Kapkoros area residents who were injured in the incidents were transferred to a hospital in the area for treatment.
While confirming the terrible incident, Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander, Patrick Lumumba reported that police responded immediately and managed to recover stolen animals, however, the bandits escaped.
He further stated that tension is high in the area and reinforcements to beef up security were being deployed in the area where families are fleeing from their homes.
Likewise, Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wesley Rotich dubbed the ongoing killings in the area as ‘genocide’ and accused the government of inaction to end the problem of insecurity in the area.
