The government of Uganda has begun investigating Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja’s degree which he claims he was awarded by Team University.
The probe into Sakaja’a degree follows a letter written by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni, asking their government to investigate the legitimacy of the senator’s academic qualifications.
Moreover, the Ugandan Daily, New Vision reported that National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) said that they will disclose their findings after completing investigations into the matter.
“Let us finalize our investigations and everyone will know. We cannot share anything now until the investigations are complete,” said NHCE Executive Director Prof Mary Okweakol.
In Addition, Prof Mary Okweakol further added that they are at an advanced stage in the probe.
According to New Vision, a former student from Team University denied Sakaja’s graduation with the class of 2016. He mentioned that only six students graduated and the Nairobi senator was not one of them.
“We didn’t have online studies at the time and when we graduated in October 21,2016, we were only six students. I know them because we are classmates,” the student noted.
Likewise, Johnson Sakaja had claimed that he graduated from Team University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Management.

However, Team University in Uganda is yet to responded to queries on the case.
Furthermore, the Commission for University Education’s (CUE) had a few weeks ago revoked the recognition of Sakaja’s degree promising to open investigations to determine its validity.
Nonetheless, the High Court of Kenya suspended the revocation. The court further forbid the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission from removing senator Sakaja’s name from its list of candidates cleared to run for the Nairobi Gubernatorial post.
