Police in Nairobi have arrested two men including a Nigerian national in connection with the importation of 2,500 grams of cannabis Sativa that was intercepted at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The consignment had originated from the United States of America
Detectives impounded the marijuana at JKIA’s cargo center during a routine check.
The narcotics has a street value of Sh75,000.
The Nigerian national was identified as Chubwebuka Mathias Eze, 36, and Kenyan Caleb Muhando Jairo, 56.
Police later raided their houses in Nairobi for more drugs.
The two are being linked to a drug cartel involved in the trafficking of narcotics within the region .
They are alleged to have a huge network operating as far as West Africa, America,Europe and Asia.
Last week police arrested two South African nationals Craig Randall Philander and Dawney-Lee Nicole Abbas who were in possession of 3.072 kilograms of cocaine valued at Sh15 million.
Enhanced surveillance at JKIA has seen a reduction in incidences of trafficking of narcotics through the busy airport.
Cooperation and collaboration between narcotic units in the region has also helped in in keeping the region tight and making it hard for traffickers to use it as an easy passage point
