The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman, Wafula Chebukati, says they will make it difficult for August 9 poll losers to challenge the outcomes.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 3, during a prayer meeting at the Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati reiterated that polls will be free, fair, credible and verifiable.
However, Chebukati says the commission is ready to handle any petitions that might arise from losers.
Out of the total 16,000 candidates eyeing various seats, only 1,882 will be declared winners
“We want to make it very difficult for them to go to court through measures we have put around the process,” he said
“The election is at the polling station, and we have allowed them to take photos of the results,” Chebukati explained.
He added that candidates can have their own parallel votes tallying centres
Chebukati called on the church to play its role in ensuring that peace prevails in the country even after the polls.
“The role of the Church is to encourage losers to use available dispute resolution mechanisms as opposed to inciting the citizenry to violence and other forms of protest.”
Chebukati is at the center of attention as he proceeds to oversee the hotly contested August 9 polls next Tuesday
