Kisii governor Simba Arati has ordered all drivers and their vehicles to congregate at the Gusii Stadium Safi for a headcount.
This according to him is the first step of a larger investigations into scandals involving irregular recruitment in the county
In addition, the Kisii governor stated that he would scrutinize the issue in the coming days to determine the extent of financial wastage the county has suffered.
Moreover, Arati on Thursday, September 1 morning expressed shock over alleged irregular employment of drivers in the transport department within Kisii County
According to the newly elected governor, up to 256 drivers had been recruited against 82 operating vehicles within the county.
Arati stated that some of those recruited had no known assigned work within the devolved unit.
Furthermore, the governor who seemed annoyed spoke during a meeting with the drivers at the Agricultural Training College in central Kisii on Wednesday, August 31 evening.
He then held a separate closed-door meeting with chief officers and committee executives at the Farmers Resource Centre.
Nonetheless, governor Arati insisted that no one would be spared in the purge. He also added that his administration would ensure all staff who have been swindling public funds are arrested and arraigned in court.
During the meeting, the governor took to task Kisii county’s finance and fleet management executives to explain the anomaly in vain.

Moreover, Simba Arati stated that any officer found to have flouted employment rules, allowing unnecessary leakages of public money will face disciplinary action.
According to the report Arati shared with the county staff, many vehicles had not been registered on comprehensive insurance cover despite records from the finance department showing so.
